Hula Hoop Pumpkin Costume

If you are looking for a fun Halloween costume, look no further. The DIY Hula Hoop Pumpkin Costume is the most fun Halloween idea I’ve seen in years. It is a no-sew project that is perfect for a last-minute costume idea you can pull off in a pinch. The fabric portion of this pumpkin costume is pinned over the Hula Hoop with safety pins, you could easily use fabric glue and the silky fabric in the tutorial could easily be substituted for a wide orange felt from JoAnn Fabric Store. There is so much you can do with this costume, the legs can be green or brown tights and the headpiece can be a handmade stem out of felt or any cheerful Halloween headdress will work perfectly as our cheerful Youtuber demonstrates. This is a 30-minute or less costume you can make on the spur of the moment before any Halloween shindig you might be invited to last minute.

I went to a Halloween Party many years ago dressed as Harpo Marx, I had painstakingly put together that costume and it was excellent, perfectly executed. I thought I was going to have the best costume there but, a girl showed up dressed as a big round tomato and stole the show. The Tomato Costume was so exquisite it was made of red satin and she had cute green tights that made her legs look like beautiful vines. The straps holding the tomato up were covered in cut felt leaves with green sequin detail, just saying the sky is the limit with imagination on these costumes, any of these ideas can easily translate to the DIY Hula Hoop Pumpkin idea. Lesson learned: Sometimes simple ideas are the most dynamic, the tomato commanded the entire room.

  • Hula Hoop
  • 2 1/2 Yards of Orange Fabric
  • 2 Yards of Nylon Belting or Any Rope
  • Green, Orange or Haloween Print Tights
  • Orange or Green Leotard, T-Shirt, or Catsuit (If you find a full-length catsuit, don’t bother with the tights)
  • Safety Pins or Fabric Glue

Crocheted Tulle Dish Scrubby

Make this fun dish scrubby for friends and family out of tulle, all you need is a roll of tulle and a crochet hook! The instructions are super simple and easy in this Youtube tutorial I found. These are a nice project to start making ahead to have on hand to give as Christmas gifts, and they are practical but really cool.

I recently noticed every time I bought a new dish scrubber from the grocery store that the selection was so limited and when I bought the mainstay, the green with a yellow sponged attached they went smelly so quickly. Well,  I need a scrubby that would hold soap and also scour a pan, if I want a sponge, I’ll buy a sponge separately. I see no logical reason why these two items need to be merged into one product. I know there is a grocery store product you can buy individually, which is basically the green scouring part of the yellow and green sponge nightmare, however, those do not hold soap as you are doing your dishes and after a small number of uses they flatten out into a dense piece of something completely useless that has to be thrown out. Same for the bath scrubbers and even body scrubbers.

What I discovered with these crocheted scrubbies was a complete user-friendly, sanitary, effective, easy to clean and maintain option for tasks we all don’t need to struggle with. Did I mention how cute they are in a kitchen? These DIY Crocheted Tulle Dish Scrubbies look excellent in any kitchen environment, whether you have a cozy country look or upscale modern austere looking kitchen. I hope you will try the Crochet Tulle Scrubby, I know you will love it as much as I do.

DIY Burlap Sack Pumpkin

It’s Autumn again, my favorite season and time to decorate the home with the cool colors of Fall to get ready for the up and coming holidays. I found this project on Youtube and I immediately fell in love with it because it uses a dollar burlap storage bag from Tractor Supply, my favorite store. My Mom used to keep potatoes in these bags when I was a little girl growing up on our farm in the Smoky Mountains.

This is one of the easiest crafts I’ve ever made, it just requires a burlap bag, from Tractor Supply, cans of orange, black and green spray paint, some batting, and a small piece of rope to tie the top. I actually did one and it was so quick and easy I ened up wanting to line my entire porch with them for my Son’s Halloween Party since it would only be $20 for 20 bags at Tractor Supply. They look so amazing as the guests arrived dressed in their cute costumes. I set up a hot apple cider serving table right in the middle of my burlap pumpkin patch you will be wishing Fall will never end.

Supplies Needed:

  • a burlap bag
  • cans of orange black and green spray paint
  • some batting
  • a small piece of rope

3 Dollar Store Pumpkin Makeovers To Try

By now, you have probably seen the plain orange foam pumpkins lots of stores carry for crafting, including Dollar Tree and other dollar stores. However, if you are like me, you might be wondering what on earth you would do with those. They are pretty plain and cheap looking. Although I do love a good bargain, a dollar wasted is a dollar wasted.

Last week, when I was looking for pumpkin decorating ideas, I came across this gem of a video that shows you exactly what to do with those cheap-o pumpkins at the dollar store, give them a makeover with creative flair. This Vlogger shows you exactly how to do just that, with step by step instructions for transforming basic craft pumpkins into mini works of art. Learn how to embellish, paint and decorate three different ways for some inexpensive but cool Halloween decor. My favorite is the floral painted pumpkin, but I also love the textured pink ones. Pretty sure I will be making all three this weekend. How about you?

Check out this pumpkin decorating video and see which you like best.
